Langkawi weather in August

August Highlights

August signals the beginning of the rainy season although the real monsoon actually sets in next month. But you can expect rains on about 17 days in August, but in short duration. It never rains continuously in Langkawi and much of the rains would be in the late afternoons or at nights.

Despite intermittent rains, you will still find 7-8 hours of sunshine during the day time. The day's high temperature reaches around 31°C, but in the evenings it comes down quite a bit due to rains or drizzles. However the humidity in August reaches its peak and can touch 95°. So if you are moving around in the open during the day time, it can get quite uncomfortable at times and you may be sweating quite heavily.

August still remains as a good month for the water sports like swimming, snorkeling etc. You won't find many tourists around this time other than those who come from mid eastern region as the time coincides with their holidays. Some tourists also come from other parts of the country and elsewhere to take advantage of the heavily discounted price in hotel rates, tour prices and car rentals. August happens to be the last month of the mid-season after which the monsoon or the low tourist season starts.

Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) is celebrated on 31st August to commemorate Malaysia's independence from the British regime. Parades and other shows take place mostly at Langkawi's capital town Kuah.
