Top Hotels in Langkawi
Budget, Mid-Range & Luxury
The budget hotels in Langkawi mostly offer basic amenities like AC, private bath with showers etc. Some may additionally offer safety lockers, fridge etc. And most in this category won't have a restaurant of their own. Many won't clean or make your bed daily unless you ask for it.
But still, there are some that are exceptional in value when you consider location, cleanliness, service, friendliness and in-room amenities. The upscale hotels on the other hand will go all the way to pamper you to extremes with world class luxury amenities.
Most budget and midrange hotels will take a refundable key deposit. The amount varies, but an average would be about RM100. While checking out, this amount is refunded when you hand over the room key back to the hotel staff.

Top Budget Hotels in Langkawi
This is one of the best budget hotels in Pantai Cenang that belongs to the Baron Group and located right on the Pantai Cenang beach. The position is excellent with rows of shops and restaurants right outside the hotel. The accommodation includes beachside chalets and houses, most having wonderful view of the water. All rooms have air-conditioners, baths with hot & cold shower etc. Although there is an Indian restaurant in its premises next to its entrance, it's under a separate management. The hotel offers basic services only and has no other luxury facilities like gym, pool, bars etc. But it's the beach location and clean simple rooms that makes it stand out from the rest.
This is one of the best budget hotels in Kuah town area. Clean rooms and offers nice in-room amenities including coffee maker, free wi-fi, bottled water etc. The area is also not as congested as some of the other hotels in Kuah, but convenient at the same time.
Located at the southern end of Pantai Cenang where the Pantai Tengah beach begins, this is a nice budget resort with beautiful tropical gardens, chalets and a short pathway leading down to the Tengah beach. There is a private lounging area on the beach. It offers amenities like free WiFi at the lobby area, complementary breakfast, massage in a beachside kiosk etc. The staffs are very friendly and the front desk offers many tours & watersports at reasonable price.
This relatively new hotel has 10 clean rooms all with two queen beds accommodating 4 in each. It's about 15-20 minute walk from the beach offering quieter ambience compared to the crowded beach area although being close to the main attractions of Cenang. It's a good value for money for families.
This hotel is located next to Malibest and on Pantai Cenang Beach. So the beach view and access is similar to that of Malibest Resort. However this hotel has had recent expansion and many rooms have been added in upper floors. There are several sea view rooms. All rooms are clean and nice. This hotel is a locals favorite for spending week-ends and holidays.
Located on Cenang beach, this budget hotel has taken a step forward to include breakfast in its room rates which is served in its in-house cafe cum restaurant. The hotel has many different types of rooms including super deluxe rooms and even apartments that can accommodate 6 persons in a unit. While some rooms have garden views, others have lovely Cenang beach and ocean views from rooms, balconies and patios. Other than chalets, the hotel also has a new 2-storey building with rooms having balconies and patios. Some chalets are right next to the beach.
A small relatively new hotel run by an energetic lady Mas Alia who is always busy ensuring everything in the hotel is the way it should be. The rooms are small but are nice & clean with bright colorful walls making them quite inviting. The pebbled pathway & courtyard between the rows of rooms and the many plants add to the charm. This is a basic hotel though.
A small hotel with only three rooms and located at the southern end of Pantai Cenang area and close to Mali Perdana Resort. The rooms are nice and clean and have free wi-fi. A short pathway leads to the Pantai Tengah beach.
It's located in the heart of the Kuah town and in the same building where there is a large duty free shopping complex. It has 10 rooms including family rooms. Free in-room wi-fi. The location is central and very convenient.
Top Mid Range Hotels in Langkawi (2-3 Stars)
This is an extremely popular boutique hotel in the area. Although it is not on a beachside, its quaint ambience with beautifully appointed units and central location in Tengah makes it a great choice. All rooms are in villas, either in ground floor or upper floor. Each unit has a bedroom, living room with dining area, balcony overlooking the pool & tropical garden, kitchenette, bathroom with separate toilet. This is an adult only accommodation. Beach is only 5 minutes walk.
This is a great hotel offering 3-star amenities. Highlights of the hotel includes its lovely private beachside location, quietness although very convenient and only few minutes walk to the shops and restaurants. It offers rooms with private balconies, villas with garden views, beach view a well as on-beach villas. The hotel also has two swimming pools, pool side bar, beach bistro, in-house restaurant and spa.
An impressive hotel with attractive European style building design with lot of space all around. This is a 3-star category hotel and offers all standard amenities including pool, wi-fi etc.
Another 3-star category hotel located right next to the Langkawi International Airport. So if you want to stay closest to the airport while enjoying standard luxury and amenities, this is probably the best choice.
Located next to Holiday Villa Resort, this 3-star property has a beach of its own. There are 100 rooms and villas spread across different units and with views of pool, garden or sea. A highlight is its large outdoor tropical pool. It offers all standard amenities, beach front water sport activities and has in-house restaurant.
Top Luxury Hotels in Langkawi (4-5 Stars)
Located at the northern shoreline of Langkawi, this is arguably the best resort in the island. With is vast stretch of area, a private beach, villas, independent houses each with several units and nestled in garden settings, super luxury amenities like lovely private beach, great spas, beach bar, pools, restaurants etc, this is a wonderful destination by itself.
Although not as large as some of the other resorts, this four-star boutique resort is located right on the Pantai Cenang beach. It has surpassed many in its category by its sheer elegance, offerings and services. One of the highlights here is the beach side dining under the coconut trees with unparalleled view of the sunset.
Nestled between the modern Telaga Harbor and the Mount Mat Cincang with lush rainforest, Danna is a grand five star property which has perfectly blended the modern and traditional British charm. As you approach Perdana Quay on the Harbor, you won't miss this white grand building on one side with its own private beach and wonderful view of the marina.
Located at the north western shore of the Island, The Datai is known to be an exclusive resort for those seeking seclusion & nature finely blended with luxury. This five star resort is a favorite to many Europeans and other foreigners who like to immerse themselves into the landscape of rainforest on the slope of a hill where the resort is located, enjoy a lovely private beach at the foothill, and experience the secluded luxury of villas spread across the jungle where some of them even have their own private pools.
Many would vote Westin as the second best resort in the island although it's located in the commercial hub Kuah. It is the only resort in Kuah that has its own private beach and that too 500 meters long stretch of sands. With one of the finest Spas, great restaurants, infinity pool, and overall a tranquil and green ambience across a vast stretch of area where battery carts transfer the guests from one point to the other, this is no doubt a great resort.
This is another great resort located on the northern shoreline with its own private section of the Tanjung Rhu beach. The resort with most of the rooms overlooking the sea, has its own watersport center, beach bar, pools, and great restaurants (including casual & fine dining). If you are looking for a romantic setting in a secluded area, great food, excellent views and unmatched service, then this can be an ideal resort to choose. One added advantage of the location is you can walk down to take a boat tour of the famous Kilim Geopark & Mangroves.
With beautiful chalets spreading across 70 acres of rainforest on the mountain slope and the Burau Bay beach at the foothill, Berjaya is one of the most sought after five star resorts in the island within the affluent class. There are Premier Chalets right on the ocean water and standing on stilts. If you can afford to stay in one of these, you can hear the sound of the waves just below the wooden floor and from the balcony you can see the water meeting the horizon.
From the Buaru Bay Beach when you look back up to these string of red chalets on the water with Mount Mat Cincang in the background, the scene is awesome and you would wish to stay here at least once in your life. Other than all luxury amenities like pools, gyms, lounges, library etc, one of the highlights here is the Pahn Thai restaurant right on the ocean water and accessible by a boardwalk with breathtaking views all around.
Located close to The Datai resort, this is another wonderful five star resort with a sprawling campus perched amidst rainforests that leads down to the private Datai Bay Beach. It offers many luxury amenities and services including a great Spa in the forest with wonderful sea view, outdoor pools, children's club, mountain biking and more.
This is a luxury resort built in traditional Malay style chalets, on a small island off the western coast of the main Langkawi island, having its private beach, pool, a full service marina and lots of greenery to explore. This is a perfect getaway for couples looking for a romantic stay and relax in peace away from the noisy crowd. The resort has many in-house amenities including wi-fi, fitness center, spa, restaurants, bar etc. It arranges kayaking, sunset cruises, boat tours etc.
This wonderful boutique resort is set up in a lush green setting with lots of plantations all around and large lawns, has 8 villas that were original Malay houses built on stilts and resembling traditional Malay architecture. So you get a real feel of staying in an original Malay house but with delicate luxury and modern amenities. With lots of plantations, an outdoor pool, gazebos for watching sunsets, one of the best restaurants in the island, this resort is ideal for honeymoon, or a romantic vacation, or even just to enjoy blissful tranquility amidst nature. It's only a 10-minute drive from the airport.
Located close to the airport, the resort offers rooms in its sea front hotel building with excellent view of Andaman sea and rolling hills. But the best accommodations are in the Sea Village which has several exclusive chalets built on stilts and right on the sea water. The resort has its own private beach and offers many luxury amenities in a quaint village setting.
This is a great beachside resort offering five star amenities including lobby lounge, outdoor pool, fitness center, outdoor tennis court, Spa facility, restaurants and lot more. The Chime bar with its vibrant live music is a popular nightspot. You have a choice of nicely appointed rooms overlooking the pool, sea or the garden.

Hi, Firstly, thank you for all of the information you have given in this website, I really find this very useful as I am planning to have my honeymoon with my husband and another couple of our friends to langkawi next month. We will be going there for 4d2n by flight and was thinking to book Century Langkawi Beach Resort from agoda.com. I notice that you did not mention this hotel in your website hence I was wondering if you have any comment or review about this resort?
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) February 2015
Hi, the resort has changed ownership, earlier it was Four Points by Sheraton when it was really nice. Being a former Sheraton property you can imagine what may be the potential. However it needs some serious renovation and upgrades, and often remains empty these days. That's why you get such attractive rates for such property which would otherwise cost more than double. But with the present rate, it's still a good value for money, if you can of course accept the few negatives. You can see my review of the hotel here on this link
Baz Mohamed (December 2015)
Hi Raj, thanks for the great useful website. Im a female who will be going on 2 nights to Langkawi (Cenang beach) will stay at Sandy Beach resort (what do u think? safe for female traveller?). I will arrive to Langkawi at 8:30am on December 20 and leave on 3pm December 22.
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) December 2015
Hi, Sandy Beach Resort is an average budget hotel. You may have a mixed experience depending on the kind of room you get. Some are not well maintained. Garden view rooms are on the opposite side of the road (away from the beach). Try to get a beach view room. There is hardly any service and the food is quite bad. But there is no safety issue. Location is excellent. It's okay for sleeping at nights.

Hi Raj, I have read your website and it is very interesting and informative. I need to book a hotel in Langkawi for my holiday in December. I have checked out so many hotels. Sadly my first choice which is the Four Seasons Resort is not within my price range! I am seriously considering the Danna which I will be able to afford. From the many many reviews I have gone through it seems like a great place with fantastic service. What I liked about resorts like The Andaman and The Four Seasons is that its not a big hotel with all the rooms in one building but all spread out. With pictures I have seen of the Danna it looks like a big hotel. I am so confused. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank You
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) November 2015
Danna is basically a luxury hotel and what you are looking for is a resort, and therefore the confusion. You can also look into Berjaya which gives you choice of rain forest or ocean-front chalets among many. Another nice option is Frangipani in Pantai Tengah... read my reviews of the resorts.
Geraldine Fitzgerald (October 2014)
Hi Raj, useful to find your Langkawi guide which I have been perusing, but am getting muddled with mixing it with all the TripAdvisor reviews! I want to come to Langkawi early Nov (8 days) for rest and relaxation - beach and walks. I'd love to do some water skiing if I can find it. I'd like a simple hotel (I'm not bothered about 5*) close to the beach - but am prepared to pay more if that's required for a beach view, and within easy distance to decent eateries and a bar. I'm not interested in upmarket dining either - or vast buffets, but just to explore the local cuisine. I won't have a car, but will take a taxi if necessary. What I don't want is to be totally cut off, but I don't want brash night life either! Where is your suggestion I stay? A friend had a wonderful stay in Mutyara burau Bay resort but it seems to have closed. Many thanks for your time. Geraldine
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) October 2014
Hi, Yes... I agree Mutiara Burau Bay had its own charm. I was there on its last month of operation. It's hard to find one like that... a resort so near yet so far. Berjaya is close to Mutiara sharing the same beach, but doesn't give you the same homely and intimate feeling. Since you don't want to be cut off and want a beach view, you can look into Frangipani in Pantai Tengah or Casa Del Mar in Pantai Cenang. Both are good quality hotels. Frangipani will give you a feel of a resort with its own beach. While Casa Del Mar is right on Pantai Cenang beach, which is a public beach but has its own lounging area. Both Cenang and Tengah areas are known for range of restaurants, although Cenang is more popular with tourists and has much larger concentration of shops & bars. Frangipani organizes water skiing although quite ironically they encourage green practices to avoid motorised water sports. Regards,

Hi, I am travelling to langkawi on 19th Oct with my mom. We are taking flight and reaching airport at 4.30pm. We have booked Desa Terrace (Pls. Tell if its good in terms of distance and rooms). We liked Rasa Exotica Vacation Home (but the reviews are BAD) Pls. Suggest . (WHICH of TWO is better)
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) September 2014
Hi, none of the hotels are great choices, but location of Rasa is much better. Desa Terrace is in an odd location and not within walking distance to a beach.
