This hotel is a good choice if you like to stay centrally in Pantai Cenang but a bit away from the crowded places and the beach, but conveniently within easy walking distance. This is a lodging only budget hotel (although some rooms are costly like the Junior Suites or Studios). There is no food served in the hotel including breakfast.
So if you get light sleep and looking for just a quiet place to sleep, you can consider White Lodge Chalet. The chalets or the rooms are lined up around a nice lush garden. The garden view and access is available from almost all rooms. There is also a small hut like gazebo in the garden where you can sit and relax.
White Lodge is located about 5 minutes walk from the main road of Pantai Cenang where all the shops and restaurants are lined up. Opposite the Little Mexican Restaurant & Cafe on the main road (Jalan Pantai Cenang), a lane leads down to this lodge. However due to several ongoing construction work, the approach is quite rough and it may not be easy to locate the hotel. Once inside, it's quiet and nice.
Rooms & Amenities
There are 22 rooms of different types. The family rooms, junior suites and studios are quite spacious. Family rooms have a king side bed and a single bed, Junior Suites have a queen size bed and a single bed, and the studios have two queen beds each. They can accommodate 3 persons although four can manage. Deluxe rooms for couples have been newly constructed and therefore are in better conditions.
In-room wi-fi is provided in all rooms. Rooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fan, a small desk, mini fridge, LCD TV etc. The TV runs only limited local channels though. The attached baths have water heaters and also showers (some of them rain showers). The new deluxe rooms also have coffee maker, hair dryer etc.
Most rooms have private balconies or patios with nice garden views. Couple of chairs and a small table is provided on the patio. It's a nice place to chill in the evenings.
Towels (often shaped to look like swans) and soap gels are provided, but no other toiletries. The reception can organize sightseeing and boating tours at reasonable cost. There is no other service offered. No intercoms or phones either. Like most other budget hotels, the reception is manned for limited hours. There is nobody at the reception between 11pm to 8am and therefore no service during this time.
For food etc, you will need to walk down to the main road (5 minutes) where plenty of restaurants are available. The nearest one 'Little Mexican Restaurant & Cafe' serves nice Mexican food like nachos and burritos, as well as beers and drinks. It can often get crowded. Good value for money in happy hours. The famous Pantai Cenang beach is only about 5-6 minutes walk and so is Cenang Mall and Underwater World. Right next to Underwater World is Mc Donalds and couple of large duty free stores.
The hotel has a small car park where you can park your rented car. Earliest check in time is 2pm and check out time is 10am. The staffs are cooperative.
What we like about the hotel
1) It's a quiet location with nice garden setting, although very conveniently located and just 5-6 minutes walk from the beach, shops and restaurants.
2) Rooms are nice and clean. Bathrooms are also quite tidy. Some rooms are quite large and spacious. The private patio is an added plus.
3) Staffs are friendly and cooperative.
What can improve
1) There should be telephones (intercoms) in the rooms so that in case of need one can call up the reception and ask for some service or help. They do however provide emergency numbers which you can call from your own mobile.
2) There should be better signage to locate the hotel.
3) Service should be offered to at least help with the luggage at the time of check in and check out. Some rooms are quite far off from the reception.
